Project Overview
The Global Frontier Center for Multiscale Energy Systems in Seoul National University was established on September 2011 with the aim of developing a break-through technology for renewable energy systems, particularly for solar and fuel cells, that can compete with fossil fuel. The center is supported by the Korean Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology and subsequently the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning up to 2020 with the annual research fund of approximately ten million dollars.
- Period: 2011. 9 ~ 2020. 8 (9 years)
- Annual Budget: About USD 10 millions
- Director: Professor Mansoo Choi (Seoul National University)
- Participating institution:
- Number of Participants: 420 researchers per year

Core Research Project
With the aim of producing a breakthrough in renewable energy technologies such as solar cells and fuel cells, we are committed to carrying out convergence research by combining following core research project:
(1) Multiscale Architecturing Technology
(2) Fusion Technology for Solar Energy Conversion
(3) Molecular Energy Integration System Technology
(4) Technology of Intelligent Energy Materials
Sequential Strategy
Global Frontier Center for Multiscale Energy Systems has a sequential research strategy consisting of three phases. On the first phase (2011 to 2013), we would develop core fundamental technology of multiscale energy systems. Based on the first phase's results, we would realize application of multiscale energy systems technology during the second phase (2013 to 2016). Combining core fundamental technologies and application techniques, we would perform advanced technology development during the third phase (2016 to 2020).
